Synopsis
We learn practical strategy for organising at grassroot level - from fundraising to direct action. With some surprising anecdotes from what I’ve seen accomplished on both an individual level and as a group. From grassroots activism to professors at Uni, journalists, all still fighting for the anti-violence cause.

Covering what it’s like to start a activist group from the ground up, with its struggles, building of movement that can go from 10 people in a room to 11 groups nationally.

We cover the likely hurdles to come: The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill has passed, our right to protest as we know it has changed. When direct action is a clear tool for justice, how we use it in this atmosphere, is a key issue to figure out.
Our Take
This pioneering short film from writer-director Thomas May Bailey uses cutting-edge Virtual Production Technology as a metaphor for dreams, fantasy and obsession.

Golden-Globe nominee EMMA D’ARCY (The House of the Dragon) is TOMMY, a lowly runner working on a glamorous car advert.

LEO SUTER (Vikings: Valhalla) is DAVID, the Hollywood star featuring in the commercial.  The wider cast includes RHIANNE BARRETO (The Outlaws), KARL QUEENSBOROUGH (Enterprice, Hamilton) and DAVID MILLS (Florence Foster Jenkins).

The Talent was written specifically for a Virtual Production “Volume” Stage and, thanks to a creative partnership with Garden Studios, we were able to use this emerging technology usually reserved for multi-million dollar features and HETV. The film was successfully filmed in early 2023, and is currently in post-production.

Tommy’s transmasculine gender identity is not a specific plot focus; we believe that, because trans lives are everywhere, they should be seen in stories that are not explicitly exploring queerness or coming-out narratives. At the same time, Tommy’s trans identity has powerful implications for The Talent: in a story that explores the vividness of imagined destinations and the difficulty of reaching them, movie star David’s easy masculinity offers a longed-for destination for Tommy - towards which the path remains unclear.
